He knew this was a bad idea right from the start. A very bad, bad, bad idea indeed. Tuesday trembled, gripping Keegan in his arms tighter, his brown eyes darting back and forth for any signs of someone coming near him. He really didn't like coming out of his dorm, unless completely necessary, and he argued that 'food!' was a necessity he needed. Right away. So now he was in the cafeteria, scared practically shitless as he glanced about for any signs of danger.
Looking down at Keegan in his arms, Tuesday stiffened and stood up a bit straighter. Okay. He could do this. He'd just grab a sandwich, an apple and a juice box from the cafeteria ladies. At least they didn't intimidate him. Much. Tuesday guessed it was the dull expressions they continously wore, as if always bored with life in general. He probably wouldn't mind just hanging around and talking with them ladies any time soon.
They weren't as. . . scary as some of the other teens. Now they were downright terrifying. They teased, taunted and tried to take Keegan from Tuesday. He hated that when other kids thought it'd be a hoot to grab Keegan away from him. And by the looks some of the other teens in the cafeteria were shooting him, it looked like wanted some recon. Oh dear. Tuesday quickly gripped Keegan tighter against his chest as he made his way toward the cafeteria ladies serving up food.
The food wasn't as. . . exquisite as some, but at least it was edible. Tuesday smiled, albeit hesitantly, at the ladies as they tossed down an apple and a squishy looking. . . thing on his plate. Gulping down the obvious nausea rising in his throat, Tuesday took his plate and tried desperately to find an empty seat. Far, far, far away from anyone else and from those eyes that looked like they wanted to hang Tuesday up by his ankles as they laugh and toss Keegan in the trashcans nearby.
Shivvering once and adjusting his grip on Keegan, Tuesday finally made it to a pretty secluded area in the cafeteria. Or as secluded as he could, since the eyes still followed him. And that thought led to Tuesday musing about the idea of paranoia in his future. It sounded about right, since he liked to avoid people like they had the plague. Except his brother Christofer, Keegan and sometimes Kara. Nodding at the thought, Tuesday plopped down on the lunch table's seat, plate following after.
He put Keegan in his lap snugly as he looked around curiously and warily. Okay, the other kids seemed to want to go mingle with their 'cliques' and not pester Tuesday about his best friend Keegan. That was good. Turning back to his food, Tuesday picked up the apple and bit into it, immediately smiling brightly at the taste. It wasn't an apple pie, but it was pretty close to it. Nibbling some more on the apple, Tuesday absentmindedly fingered the top of Keegan's ears, tugging on the small ratty things gently.
He finished off his apple in record time and leant forward to glance at the squishy thing in front of him. Was it edible? It didn't look like it. Poking at it with a finger, Tuesday lifted up the slightly soggy bread and blinked. Ham and cheese. How. . . normal actually. Looking down at Keegan, then to the sandwich, Tuesday sighed. "I'd thought it'd be. . . something scary. Like. . . peanut butter and bananas or tuna fish." he spoke simply, glancing down at Keegan with a shrug of his shoulders.
Letting the bread flop back down, Tuesday picked it up and took a small bite of it. Heyyy, this was actually pretty tasty! Blinking and taking another chunk from the sandwich. Looking back over his shoulder, Tuesday frowned at the sight of the other kids laughing at someone else. That wasn't very niceee. Turning back to his food, Tuesday looked down at Keegan. "Those kids aren't very nice at all. . ." He murmured, silently tapping his free hand against the table, as if waiting for Keegan to suddenly answer him.
